It is always nice to have a bowl this comforting snack. My only problem is, I wind up eating way too much of it. Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow is very popular here in the United States. Most Chex boxes actually have the recipe printed on the back or side of the box. Also, these are gluten-free!

Make the holidays bright with this amazing treat. They are so simple to make, comes together in minutes. If I can do it, you can do it. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Gather the ingredients

Chex, chocolate chips, peanut butter, butter, powdered sugar in bowls on a wooden table.

In order to make homemade muddy buddies you need just six easy to find ingredients:

  • Chocolate – Use whatever chocolate you like, semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate. Normally chocolate chips are used to make puppy chow, but chocolate bars can be used as well.
  • Butter – Salted or unsalted butter.
  • Peanut butter – Use the smooth peanut butter. This homemade peanut butter is awesome, or you can use store-bought.

Add 1 cup of water to a pot, place a large metal bowl on top. Add the ingredients to the metal bowl. Set the heat to medium, as the water heats the steam will heat up the bowl, gently melting the ingredients.

Step 3: Coat the Chex cereal

Bowl of muddy buddies before the powdered sugar is added.
